Land Home Justice network systematically investigates land acquisitions in Uzbekistan, which are leading to the forced eviction of homeowners and small businesses. These acquisitions can also cause destruction of cultural heritage, green spaces, and communities.
Abuses of power, due process and law;
Human rights violations; and
Impacts on households, communities and businesses.
Land Home Justice aims to find rigorous, evidence-based answers to its core research questions.
Are national laws and/or international human rights law being breached during land acquisitions and forced eviction exercises conducted in urban areas in Uzbekistan?
Where consistent breaches take place, what laws and human norms are violated?
What is the impact of illicit land acquisitions on victim communities?
Who are the beneficiaries of these illicit land acquisitions and what is their level of complicity with legal and/or human rights violations?
Is there evidence to indicate forced evictions are a large-scale, systemic issue in Uzbekistan?
To preserve our evidence, we built our Database with Uwazi, an open-source web-based database application developed by HURIDOCS. The Database documents the ongoing compulsory acquisition of land and homes in Uzbekistan, including illustrating geolocations of forced evictions.
